Eyelid Surgery

Eyelid surgery can enhance both the function and appearance of your eyelids. At OcuSight, our team of highly skilled, fellowship-trained oculoplastic surgeons is dedicated to achieving excellent results.

What is Eyelid Surgery?

Eyelid Surgery

As you age, sagging or drooping eyelids can make you look older than you feel. Eyelid surgery, specifically blepharoplasty, can restore youthfulness and brightness to the eyes and give the eyes a more open and alert look, making you appear more awake and refreshed.

The blepharoplasty procedure can be performed for both cosmetic and functional purposes. Cosmetic blepharoplasty improves the appearance of your eyelids by lifting and smoothing the eyelids and correcting any sagging or puffiness.

Functional blepharoplasty can correct various eyelid conditions, many of which may be covered by insurance. Blepharoplasty is a specialized procedure performed by fellowship-trained oculoplastic surgeons to improve the appearance and function of the eyelids.

At OcuSight, our highly skilled doctors perform upper and lower eyelid blepharoplasty. Both procedures involve removing or reshaping the fat deposits and excess skin in and around the eyelids.

OcuSight’s fellowship-trained doctors are particularly skilled in performing surgery around the delicate eye area to ensure excellent results.

Who is a Good Candidate for Eyelid Surgery?

Drooping Eyelid

Eyelid drooping and sagging can stem from various factors. They are sometimes hereditary but can also result from aging, chronic allergies, thyroid disorders, smoking, fluid retention, and more.

Fortunately, blepharoplasty can improve eyelid issues in both the upper and lower eyelids. Good candidates for eyelid surgery include those with excess skin or fatty deposits in the upper eyelids, loose skin that creates folds in the upper lid and often impairs vision, under eye bags, excess skin or sagging of the lower lids, or poorly positioned eyelids.

If you experience difficulty reading, driving, watching TV, or even bump your head frequently due to obstructed vision caused by sagging eyelids, eyelid surgery or ptosis repair may be helpful. If you feel as though your drooping eyelids are interfering with your visual field or worsen when you are tired, let your oculoplastic surgeon at OcuSight know.

If you are experiencing any of these issues, our oculoplastic surgeons can examine your eye area and determine if eyelid surgery could enhance their appearance or even expand your field of vision.

What is Recovery Like After Eyelid Surgery?

After your eyelid surgery, it’s important to follow the recovery instructions provided by your oculoplastic surgeon to ensure the best possible outcome. You should expect some swelling, bruising, and discomfort in the days following surgery, which can be managed with medication and ice packs.

Your oculoplastic surgeon may advise you to keep your head elevated and avoid certain activities, such as heavy lifting and strenuous exercise, for a certain period of time. It’s also important to avoid rubbing or touching your eyes and to use any prescribed eye drops or ointments as directed.

You should plan to take some time off work and avoid driving until your oculoplastic surgeon gives you the okay. Be patient with the healing process, as it can take several weeks for the swelling to subside and for your final results to be apparent.
