What is CK?
Conductive Keratoplasty, or CK, is a vision correction procedure for patients over 40 with presbyopia and who want to have clear vision without the use of reading glasses.
Am I a candidate for CK?
Anyone who is at least 40 years of age or older, who can see fairly well for the distance without glasses, who need glasses for reading or working at a computer are candidates for CK.
How is this procedure performed?
CK, which takes less than three minutes, is done in-office. Topical or "eye drop" anesthesia is applied to numb the eye. A speculum is inserted to hold the eye open during the procedure. To guide the doctor's treatment, a circular treatment pattern is imprinted on the cornea using rinse-away ink. Using a probe thinner than a strand of human hair, radio waves are applied in a circular pattern to shrink small areas of corneal tissue. The circular treatment pattern acts like a belt tightening around the cornea, increasing its over all curvature to correct farsightedness.
What can I expect after the procedure?
Once finished, you can usually return to work the next day. Vision begins improving in about a week's time.
